Awareness is not overthinking
Analysing yourself endlessly is not the same as being aware. One keeps you in your head; the other brings you back into choice.
People who overthink often assume they are already deeply self-aware. Usually the opposite is true. Overthinking is a way of staying at a safe distance from feeling — building theories about yourself so you never have to sit inside your own experience.
Awareness is quieter than that. It is noticing that your shoulders rose when the message arrived. Noticing the tone you used with yourself afterwards. Noticing that you agreed to something before you had decided anything.
Overthinking asks why am I like this. Awareness asks what is happening in me right now.
There is no analysis required in that moment, and no verdict. You are simply present for what is happening, without immediately reaching for a reason or a fix.
The practice is small and unglamorous. Once a day, pause and ask: what am I feeling, and where do I feel it? You will be surprised how often the honest answer is something you have been carrying for hours without acknowledging.
Over time, that pause widens. And in the gap between the trigger and the reaction, something new becomes available — not a better performance, but an actual choice.
